Servarayan hills with the anglicised name Shevaroy Hills, are a towering mountain range (1620 meters) near the town of Salem, in Tamil Nadu state, southern India. It is one of the major hill stations in Tamil Nadu and in the Eastern Ghats. Servarayans form part of the southern ranges of the Eastern Ghats System. Shevaroys cover an area of 400 square kilometres (99,000 acres), with plateaus from 4,000 To 5,000 feet (1,200–1,500 meters) above sea-level. The main town here is Yercaud. As earlier stated, it also represents the highest peak in the southern part of the Eastern Ghats, with the Solaikaradu peak towering to 1620 m above mean sea-level. It is nestled parallel to the lower Chitteri – Kalrayan hills, just north of the Kolli Hills and Pachaimalai Hills hills. Westwards, lie the Mettur hills. This range forms an important link in the southern part of Eastern Ghats hill chain. The Servarayan hills have several old coffee plantations and a sanatorium. The major areas of tourist interest are the Yercaud Orchidarium of the Botanical Survey of India and the old coffee estates. Some patches of the original forests still exist in the Shevaroy hills and those in higher slopes and peaks contain several endemic species of plants and fauna. The faunal and floral elements high up here have stark similarities to the Western Ghats. Such highlights include Strobilanthes Cynthiana (Neelakurinji) in the peaks here, which apart from upper reaches of Western Ghats, is not known from the Eastern Ghats elsewhere. Natural forests apart, coffee and citrus fruits, most notably oranges, are grown in abundance, as well as bananas, pears and jackfruit. Fauna such as gaur, sambar deer, spotted deer, Indian pangolin, jackals, hares, foxes, mongoose, civets, giant squirrels, and many reptiles including endemic ones such Hemiphyllodactylus aurantiaceous, Calotes calotes, Calotes roue xii, Mabuya beedom ii and shieldtail snake like Uropeltis Elliott and Uropeltis shorttii (which is endemic to the hill range), the endangered Python molurus, Macropisthodon plumbicolor, Calliophis beddomei and Trimeresurus gramineus; endemic amphibians such as Hylarana, Raorchestes, Fejervarya and scores of birds like the whistling thrush, racket-tailed drongo, peacock, shama, Oriental leafbird and Indian grey hornbill occur in Shevaroy Hills.

Kiliyur Falls is a waterfall in the Shervaroyan hill range in the Eastern Ghats, Tamil Nadu. The waters overflowing the Yercaud Lake fall 300 ft (91 meters) into the Kiliyur Valley. The falls is situated at a distance of 2.5 kilometres (1.6 miles) from the Yercaud lake. The final 500 meters (1,600 feet) or so consist only of a rough unpaved steep pathway. But it is a breathtaking sight in the monsoon time when the water levels are at the maximum. The best time to visit this place is immediately after the monsoons.

Located at the peak of flattop Shevaroy Hills, Shevaroy Temple is dedicated to Lord Shevaroyan who is believed to be the lord of the hills. Another deity here is Goddess Kaveri who is believed to preserve River Cauveri. The temple is located inside a dark and narrow cave, which is impenetrable behind the idols of Lord Shevaroyan and Goddess Kaveri. The native tribes come to this place in hundreds during the time of the annual festival in the temple, which is in the month of May. The view from this place is breathtaking with several hills all around with the extensive plains spreading across the hills. Lady’s Seat is a cluster of Rocks on the South West of the Yercaud hills overlooking the ghat road and the town of Salem to the South. There is a natural rock formation in the form of a seat where reportedly a white English Lady of yester years spent her evenings viewing the magnificent panorama before one’s eyes. There is a sheer drop of about 200 feet at this point into a private estate in the valley below. There is a man made viewing tower with Telescopes. One can see the magnasite deposits on the plains and on clear days a view of Mettur Dam. One should not miss the night view of the Salem town with millions of twinkling lights. There is a mini park and it is a breathtaking spot for a picnic.

Nature has shaped a cluster of rocks in the form of seats on the South-west of the Yercaud Hills that overlook the Ghat Road and the town of Salem making it one of the most frequently visited sites in the town. Yercaud Lake is one of the few natural lakes in the many hill stations that dot south India. Boating and having a picnic on her banks is one of the most enjoyable ways to spend the day when not trekking in these dense forest hills and shoals.  Manjakuttai View Point is located at a distance of 7 km’s from Yercaud Town. Its Best South India Holiday Packages It has amazing views of surrounding valleys and mountains. Best time to go here is early morning to see the beauty of the sunrise. This viewpoint is less known to people as it is still under development. But it is a nice place to go. Looks like the hills end here. You can witness a great view in winter with fog hitting you in the face.The access road could be very steep. There are no shops around (at least during off season). There are local villagers around. It is a good place to trek or drives too if you want to make a quick getaway for a couple of hours.
